Casa de Salinas, a city palace in Seville

Seville is a city full of beautiful palaces and mansions, such as Palacio de Las Dueñas, Palacio de Lebrija and Casa de Pilatos. Casa de Salinas, which is still owned by private owners, can also be included in this list (although, on a first visit to Seville I would prefer to visit the three aforementioned city palaces). The house, which looks quite austere on the facade, is currently still inhabited, but a number of their private rooms can be admired with a guided tour. You can admire a fantastic 16th century patio with Mudéjar style arches, winter and summer lounges with painted ceilings, original ceramic tiles and Roman mosaics. You will find Casa de Salinas in the old town of Seville, a short distance from the large cathedral and the Real Alcazar.

It was not until the beginning of the 20th century that the mansion became the property of the Salinas family. The family did a major renovation to restore the original appearance. This had changed quite a bit during the 400 years of the building's history. Today, the Casa de Salinas shows off typical structures of the 16th century such as marble columns and plasterwork. The walls are covered with tiles made in Triana. When you enter the second patio you will see a beautiful mosaic from the 2nd century dedicated to Bacchus and which comes from the archaeological excavations of the Roman city Itálica.
